Montgomery County ICAC combats Child Exploitation amid COVID-19 Pandemic

By  |

Taskforce members with Houston Metro – Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC), working in Montgomery County, have continued to protect the community’s most vulnerable population during the past few months. Due to COVID19 closures and protocols, families have been confined to their homes and predators have had more free time and virtually unlimited access to the internet. Meanwhile, detectives with Montgomery County ICAC remained diligent by responding to cyber tips, reports from exploited child victims and their families, and conducting proactive investigations to keep children safe.

The Houston-Metro Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce in Montgomery County is made up of Montgomery County Constable Offices for Pct. 1, Pct. 2, Pct. 3, Pct. 4, and Pct. 5, Conroe Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Department of Homeland Security-Investigations Division and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. This team rescued children in abusive homes made vulnerable by the quarantine conditions. The team arrested registered sex offenders who had re-offended. They also arrested a number of suspects who were promoting images of child sexual abuse, and now we will hold these suspects accountable. In short, the devotion and commitment displayed by the ICAC Taskforce is highly commendable, and we should all be thankful for their work. They really are making a difference in keeping our children safe.”

District Attorney Brett Ligon shared, “Those who prey on our children never take a day off, and neither do we. As long as there are criminals attempting to harm our children, we will be there to find them and bring them to justice. This is the mission of the ICAC team and this office, and we will pursue that mission pandemic or not.”
