Pet of the Month: Cricket

By  |

Hello Woodlands, in partnership with Operation Pets Alive (OPA), highlights a “Pet of the Month” that features a local dog or cat available for foster and/or adoption in Montgomery County, Texas. Operation Pets Alive is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization striving to elevate Montgomery County to a No-Kill community through innovative programs that raise community awareness, reduce the number of dogs and cats that enter our shelters, and increase the number of dogs and cats that leave our shelters alive.

For our Pet of the Month, we are excited to introduce you to Cricket!

Cricket’s Story

Cricket was a stray 7-month-old Shepherd mix that found herself at the animal shelter in the summer of 2021. Operation Pets Alive evaluated Cricket, and several other dogs, as being a good candidate for adoption and possibly even the transport program. Unfortunately, due to a lack of fosters, Cricket went into a short-term boarding facility, but the good news was she was safe from euthanasia for space.

In September of 2021, Cricket and some of our other dogs in boarding got the chance to attend an adoption event. Her shining personality won the heart of her adopter and she went to live with him that day. Everyone thought this was Cricket’s happily ever after.

Sadly, in January 2024, Cricket’s person needed to enter a nursing home and she could not go with him.

Cricket is now back in Operation Pets Alive’s foster program and enjoying her foster home, but she deserves her very own home! Here’s what Cricket’s foster has to say about her:

“Cricket is laid back and easy going. She gets along with our alpha female and our grumpy old man mastiff mix. Cricket and our female are besties and play, play, play. Cricket needs another dog friend to play with. She loves belly rubs and chillin’ on the bed with the other dogs. She is vocal when she wants to play but doesn’t bark at the neighbors or trash men like our other two. She is housetrained and crate trained and has been a joy to foster. She would be a wonderful addition!”

Cricket is spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and heartworm negative. She is approximately 70 pounds and a little over 3 years old. If you are interested in meeting or adopting Cricket, submit an application on Operation Pets Alive’s website (no obligation to adopt) with her name and ID D210389: https://operationpetsalive.org/programs/adopt/
