Properties Damaged by Harvey may be eligible for Reappraisal

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS – Properties damaged by Harvey may be eligible for reappraisal for the 2018 tax cycle. The Texas Property Tax Code allows local governmental entities to authorize Appraisal Districts to reappraise property inside a declared disaster area. A reappraisal of property affected by the recent flooding will be conducted if requested by the local taxing entities.

“A major portion of this process involves assistance by the property owners,” said Township Chairman Gordy Bunch. “We remind Township residents who suffered storm damage to please submit evidence to expedite the potential future reappraisal.”

Evidence must be brought in to Montgomery Central Appraisal District and can include any of the following: Photos of Damage, Insurance Estimates, Contractor Estimates, Receipts for Repairs, FEMA Documents or any related repair costs due to disaster damage.

Harris County homeowners who suffered damage from Hurricane Harvey can report damage to HCAD through its upgraded app available for Apple or Android phones. You can also report damage at 713-812-5805 by providing your name, address, phone number and account number, if you have it, along with the type of property damage and amount of water you received. You can also email that information to help@hcad.org . Reporting property damage now will help the appraisal district identify the most damaged neighborhoods and properties to help homeowners next year when property is reappraised.
