Scott Hamilton to speak at Memorial Hermann In the Pink of Health Luncheon

By  |

THE WOODLANDS, TX – Memorial Hermann’s In the Pink of Health committee today announced four-time world and U.S. champion, philanthropist, author, television personality, and three-time cancer survivor Scott Hamilton as keynote speaker for the 18th Annual Memorial Hermann In the Pink of Health Luncheon on Friday, October 12, 2018.

In making the announcement, In the Pink of Health co-chair Cheryl Brady said “We are thrilled to have Scott Hamilton as the keynote speaker this year. He is an inspiring, impassioned leader and advocate for cancer treatment.”

Co-chair Tiffany McClung added, “Scott’s drive and initiative in facilitating collaborative research and educating the public are extraordinarily worthy of sharing with our community.”

Scott Hamilton, best known for capturing the hearts of millions during his Olympic Gold medal performance in Sarajevo in 1984, knows a thing or two about cancer. Following his mother’s passing from cancer in 1977, Hamilton has journeyed three consecutive cancer diagnoses of his own, collectively setting him on a mission to support cancer research, treatment and care.

“For years, our In the Pink of Health committee has focused on inspiring and encouraging attendees so that when they leave, they can take what they heard and integrate it into their own lives and into The Woodlands community,” said Josh Urban, senior vice president and CEO of Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital and Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center.  “Hearing from Scott and his personal perspective and experience during the course of his treatments is sure to resonate with all our guests.”

Among Hamilton’s many accolades, he leads the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation; supports the Angel Mentoring Program, bringing patients together with survivors of the same cancer; and ChemoCare.com, a resource for those undergoing chemotherapy. The logo for his foundation, an upside-down ribbon, is representative of Hamilton’s figure skating backflip and, more importantly, his goal to reverse the trajectory of cancer.

Never ceasing to impress, Hamilton’s clarity about living the life he’s been given has inspired many people at numerous engagements for noteworthy organizations, including our most recent Winter Olympics. Scott Hamilton exudes enthusiasm and inspiration, and often recaps with his motto, “The only disability in life is a bad attitude.”

When he is not working or participating in a wide variety of charitable events, Hamilton can be found on the golf course and enjoys spending time with his wife Tracie and two sons.
