Sheriff’s Office investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Oak Ridge

On March 11, 2023, at about 8:00 p.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the 26800 block of Interstate 45 to assist in the investigation of an officer-involved shooting involving multiple agencies. Members of the Houston Police Department, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, and Texas Department of Public Safety were investigating a suspect involved in multiple robberies that spanned across Harris, Fort Bend, and Montgomery County. The suspect arrived at a liquor store at the listed location, where officers witnessed him commit aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Officers attempted to stop the suspect, who ignored commands and ran. The foot pursuit led to the back of the building, where the suspect displayed a firearm. Fearing for their safety, multiple officers discharged their firearms, striking the suspect, who was pronounced deceased on the scene. 

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit, along with Texas Rangers and The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, will be investigating the shooting. Each agency involved in this incident will be conducting its own administrative investigation. The name of the deceased will not be released until the next of kin has been notified. 


UPDATE 3/13/24 2:12 a.m.: The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office can confirm that the identity of the deceased suspect is 44-year-old Roosevelt Overton Jr. from Houston, Texas. The investigation determined that Overton has been identified as a suspect in more than 20 robbery cases across Harris, Fort Bend, and Montgomery County.
