SJRA: Water line repairs affected by Tropical Storm Imelda

By  |

The Woodlands, Texas – San Jacinto River Authority (SJRA) and its contractors currently remain on site on the eastbound lanes of Research Forest Drive to repair damage to a 30-inch SJRA Groundwater Reduction Plan water line. We are closely monitoring Tropical Storm Imelda which is expected to track slowly over SE Texas and into Montgomery County with 4-7 inches of widespread rain and 10-12 inches of isolated rain in the area over the next three days. Tropical Storm Imelda is expected to delay repairs to the water line site.

The leak was found early Monday morning (around 1:00am) and appears to be isolated to a 20-foot section of underground pipe. The damaged pipe section was removed Monday and temporarily capped. Additional plans include installing and hydrotesting a new pipe. The excavation will then be filled and the road will be repaired and put back in service, weather permitting.

These repairs are a result of a major water line break that occurred in The Woodlands under the eastbound lanes of Research Forest Drive near Technology Forest Drive last Friday afternoon. Montgomery County Precinct 3 (Precinct 3) and SJRA recommend drivers avoid the area if possible. Alternative routes include Woodlands Parkway, Lake Woodlands Drive, Texas 242, and FM 1488.
