Students from The Woodlands Methodist School bring Joy to Those with Dementia
In a heartwarming display of community spirit, students from The Woodlands Methodist School recently visited The Gathering Place, a unique ministry at The Woodlands Methodist Church dedicated to supporting families affected by mild to moderate Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. This inspiring event, led by our music teacher Mrs. Reeves, was a beautiful reminder of the power of music and compassion, aligning perfectly with the scripture, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

During their visit, the students brought joy and energy by performing a selection of uplifting songs. Their voices filled the room, creating an atmosphere of warmth and nostalgia. It was a touching moment as attendees smiled, tapped their feet, and sang along, evoking cherished memories and feelings of joy.
This collaboration between our students and The Gathering Place has been a long-standing tradition and exemplifies the Christian values of service and compassion. As a partnership, the program rotates different age groups each month, allowing students of varying grades to engage with the attendees. This fosters intergenerational connections and enriches the experience for both the performers and those they serve. It’s a beautiful reminder of how small acts of kindness can make a significant impact in our lives.

The Woodlands Methodist School, Pre-K through 8th grade, provides a joyful, Christian education through which children develop a lifelong love of learning, pursue excellence, and positively impact the world. Classrooms with low student-to-teacher ratios are filled with hands-on learning experiences, creating a dynamic, Christian learning environment that meets the needs of each student at his or her developmental level with high academic success. As an outreach ministry of The Woodlands Methodist Church, we adhere to the church’s mission statement: to reach people for Jesus Christ, disciple them in faith, and help those in need. Everyday classroom experiences are interpreted in ways consistent with the Bible and Christian values. Students of all faiths are welcome.
