Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands Names Dr. Rachel Marek as Chief Medical Officer
THE WOODLANDS, TX – Texas Children’s Hospital is pleased to announce Dr. Rachel Marek as the Chief Medical Officer for Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands. Dr. Marek joined Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands in 2016, serving as Medical Director of Pediatric Hospital Medicine. She also serves as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Hospital Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine.
“I’ve had the good fortune of working with Dr. Marek for several years now. She’s a collaborative, inspiring physician dedicated to improving the care we provide to our patients and families in The Woodlands and surrounding region,” said Dr. Jeffrey S. Shilt, Community-In-Chief at Texas Children’s Hospital and Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. “Dr. Marek has also been instrumental in shaping and advancing the academic careers of our community faculty while serving families in the area through outreach programs like SPLASH, the swim safe program to reduce drownings. I couldn’t be more excited to have her lead our pediatric services at Texas Children’s The Woodlands.”
During her time as Medical Director of Pediatric Hospital Medicine, Dr. Marek established key programs to support physician providers and to enhance the quality of medical services. She also created the Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands Annual Value Awards to recognize outstanding staff members who exemplify the Texas Children’s Hospital values of amplifying unity, embracing freedom, leading tirelessly and living compassionately. Additionally, Dr. Marek established the Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands Awards Committee to support and encourage faculty to apply for the Baylor College of Medicine Faculty Awards for Excellence in Patient Care.
“Dr. Marek is an outstanding clinician and educator and an astute and innovative leader,” said Dr. Lara Shekerdemian, pediatrician-in-chief at Texas Children’s Hospital and Professor and Chair, Department of Pediatrics, Baylor College of Medicine. “Her dedication to providing the highest quality of care to children and their families in the Woodlands region is palpable, and I am beyond excited to be working with her in her new leadership role.”
Dr. Marek received her medical degree from the University of Michigan and then completed her residency at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. For ten years, she worked as a community pediatric hospitalist at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital acting as medical director for eight years as well as department chair for two years before.
“I am honored to serve Texas Children’s The Woodlands in this new capacity,” said Dr. Rachel Marek. “I look forward to continuing to build our team, supporting our entire staff, and striving for medical excellence at our campus in this tremendous community.”
Dr. Marek has been involved nationally with community pediatric hospitalists throughout her career. She previously served as co-chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Hospital Medicine Community Hospitalist Sub-Committee and regularly speaks at regional and national conferences. Dr. Marek is an elected member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Hospital Medicine Executive Committee and is currently chair elect. She focuses her non-clinical time on advancing community pediatric hospital medicine and leadership development.
