YMCA Announces New Summer Race Series for Kids and Teens

THE WOODLANDS, TX — The Woodlands Family YMCA is excited to announce the NEW Summer Race Series for Kids and Teens, Presented by Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands. For more than 18 years, the YMCA has hosted the Annual Kids Triathlon. Due to the popularity of this race, we are providing youth additional opportunities to enjoy the sports of swimming, biking and running. Triple the Fun!

“We are extremely grateful for the generosity and support of Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands as the Presenting Sponsor,” said Roxanne Davis, Race Director and Community Liaison at YMCA. “The YMCA Summer Race Series will benefit the YMCA’s Annual Campaign, which ensures everyone, regardless of age, income or background has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive at the Y. Proceeds from the event will help us to create a stronger community, Triple the Impact, and bring about meaningful change. Swim/Bike/Run for a CAUSE.”

“Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands is proud to participate in the YMCA Kid’s Triathlon Series,” said Jenny Bailey, Community Liaison at Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands. “Each event will give more kids the opportunity to participate in a fun competitive triathlon. We are excited that the YMCA has expanded it this year and that we can contribute to such a worthy cause.”

Swim+Bike+Run = FUN! Triathlons/Duathlons are an exciting sport for children because it involves two or three activities that every child enjoys – swimming, cycling and running. Start time for all three races will be 7:30 a.m. The specific dates and locations for the Summer Race Series are listed below.

  • June 11: YMCA Kids Splash and Dash, for Ages 7 – 15. Swim/Run format at the Shadowbend YMCA in The Woodlands
  • July 16: YMCA Kids Triathlon, for Ages 6 – 12. Swim/Bike/Run format at the Branch Crossing YMCA in The Woodlands
  • August 13: YMCA Kids Duathlon, for Ages 7 – 15. Run/Bike/Run format at the new Holcomb Family YMCA in The Falls of Imperial Oaks in Spring.

The 2022 event will feature chip timing for faster and more accurate finish line results. Boys and girls will compete separately in their age groups. The top three finishers, male and female, in each age group will receive a special award.

All participants will receive a goodie bag, T-shirt and finisher medal. A special award will be presented to those that complete all three races.

Post-race activities will include refreshments, face and balloon art, music, games, photo booth, awards ceremony and sponsor booths. Concessions will be available for purchase.
