Conroe ISD ranked among America’s Best Large Employers by Forbes for second straight year

Conroe ISD has been ranked on the Forbes 10th Anniversary list of America’s Best Employers for 2025. The District was rated 69th out of the 700 large employers, was the highest-ranked school district, and one of only two in the top 200.

Ranked eighth among companies in Texas, Conroe ISD was preceded by Houston Methodist (3), Cook Children’s Health Care System (22), Baptist Health System (27), MD Anderson Cancer Center (32), CMC (36), Southwest Airlines (54), and H-E-B (55). The district also ranked ahead of all the other State’s education institutions on the list: Baylor College of Medicine (220), University of Texas, Austin (235), Lone Star College (287), and Texas A&M University (317).

Other companies of note also ranked in the top 100 of the annual Forbes list are the University of Notre Dame (1), Trader Joe’s (2), Google (6), Microsoft (7), In-N-Out Burger (8), Delta Air Lines (9), Apple (12), NASA (20), Nike (33), Adobe (34), Progressive (49), IBM (50), Hyatt Hotels (62), Toyota North America (71), LinkedIn (88), Sony (92), Netflix (93), and Visa (99).

Forsyth County School District (89) in Georgia, Chandler Unified School District (210) in Arizona, Cobb County School District (310) in Georgia, and Davis School District (315) in Utah were the other school district to make the list.

Conroe ISD is a 348-square mile school district that is geographically diverse and includes The Woodlands, Shenandoah, Oak Ridge North, Conroe, and Grangerland, as well as several other smaller towns, communities, and unincorporated areas. As the seventh-largest district in Texas and 49th largest in the U.S., Conroe ISD serves over 73,000 students across 71 campuses and is one of the fastest-growing districts in the state with current enrollment growth averaging 2,500 students per year.

Not only is Conroe ISD the largest school district in Montgomery County, but it is also the largest employer with over 10,000 employees. The district offers competitive salaries, is committed to providing quality professional development, and is proud to have the third-lowest tax rate in the Houston metropolitan area. Conroe ISD ranked 37th on Forbes’ 2024 list of America’s Best Large Employers, has been named one of America’s Best-in-State Employers for Texas by Forbes and the Best School District in Montgomery County by Niche each of the last three years, and was named a Top Workplace by the Houston Chronicle in 2021.

America’s Best Employers 2025 were selected based on an independent survey of over 210,000 U.S. employees from all industry sectors working for companies employing at least 1,000 people within the U.S. Employers were evaluated on a range of criteria, including working hours, salary, opportunities for training and promotion, workload expectations, mental health benefits, and diversity within the management team. Participants were also asked if they would recommend their employer to others, and were given the chance to rate other employers in their respective industries.

Research market firm Statista evaluated responses from current employees, employees who had worked for the company within the past two years, and individuals familiar with the company through friends, family or peers in their industry. Greater weight was given to evaluations from current and former employees. All survey responses were tallied to produce a score for each company, and the 700 organizations with the highest scores made the final list.
