Winter Storm Updates for Montgomery County – Sunday, January 25
Winter Storm Updates for Montgomery County, TX: On the morning of Sunday, January 25, the US National Weather Service Houston-Galveston Texas shared the following updates as of 8:23 a.m.
8:20 AM Sunday: Just because precipitation has stopped falling from the sky does NOT mean that the threat for icy roads has ended in the Houston metro! Here’s a zoomed in look at the current position of the freezing line across the Houston metro, which will sag southeastward more through the morning. Temperatures have dropped into the 20s across western Harris County, which will cause concerns for remaining water on roadways to freeze, especially bridges and overpasses.

5:30 AM Sunday: Here is the current radar and temperatures across the area. Temperatures are dropping to and below freezing across the area, with freezing rain and sleet falling. We even have thundersleet being reported! (While you may tempted to go outside and experience thundersleet, the same rules with thunderstorms apply: when thunder roars, go indoors!). Stay home this morning if you can. Freezing rain and sleet will end in the next couple of hours. With clouds sticking around today, travel conditions won’t improve much, with areas generally northwest of Highway 59 remaining below freezing. When it’s safe to do so, send us your pictures and let us know how much has accumulated on the ground, trees, and roadways!

Montgomery County Judge Keough shared the following update after a Weather Briefing 7am Update on Sunday, January 25, 2026 for Montgomery County, Texas:
“1/25/26 @ 7:15a.m weather update:
Just received a weather update from the National Weather Service. The freezing line moved slower overnight and has just moved through the county. Current temperatures will be our warmest of the day and the much colder air will start to push in over the next few hours. It will be very cold tonight with lows in the teens tonight.
Elevated surfaces, overpasses and bridges will start to freeze up. Please avoid travel if possible, but if you do go out exercise extreme caution on those elevated roadways. As wet as it got overnight road treatments will be affected and as temps drop freezing is expected.
Power outages are less than 1,000 across the county at this time, with all outages being currently assessed by the power companies.
Our shelters and warming centers are still open for anyone needing them. I will post locations in the comments.
We sill have a little bit of sleet and some freezing rain still falling but so far accumulations have been lighter than forecasted!
More updates as I get them. Stay safe and warm!”
