Memorial Hermann earns Top AHA Awards for Exceptional Stroke Care
Memorial Hermann has once again been nationally recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) for delivering fast, evidence-based stroke care that gives patients the best chance at recovery.
Ten of the health system’s acute care hospitals received the AHA’S Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award recognizing their commitment to providing care that follows the latest, research-backed treatment guidelines proven to save lives and reduce disability after stroke. The hospitals included:
- Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital
- Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital
- Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital
- Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center
- Memorial Hermann Pearland Hospital
- Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital
- Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital
- Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital
- Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center
- Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center
Adding to this year’s honors, Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital advanced from the Silver to Gold Plus award, while Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital earned the Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll Advanced Therapy award for the first time, recognizing their ability to quickly deliver advanced treatment to patients experiencing certain types of stroke.

“Stroke is a medical emergency and every second matters,” said Memorial Hermann’s System Stroke Program Director Sandi Shaw. “It’s an honor to have the American Heart Association recognize the incredible work happening across our hospitals every day to ensure patients receive the right treatment as quickly as possible. These awards are a testament to the teamwork of our emergency physicians, neurologists, nurses, EMS partners and countless others who work together to improve outcomes for our patients.”
In addition to AHA Get With The Guidelines, the following campuses received the AHA’s Target: StrokeSM awards for meeting specific criteria that reduces the time between an eligible patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with thrombolytic therapy.
Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll Elite Plus was awarded to:

- Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital
- Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center
- Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center
Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll Elite was awarded to:

- Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital

Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll Advanced Therapy was awarded to:

Finally, nine campuses were also recognized with the AHA’s Target: Type 2 Diabetes™ Honor Roll award that aims to offer patients with type 2 diabetes, who might be at higher risk for complications, the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized due to stroke. These campuses included:
