Through EfTA’s Student Internship Program (SIP), rising seniors gain firsthand exposure to a variety of career fields while developing the professional skills needed for future success.

SIP students have been matched with area employers for two-week, in-person internships in June or July where they shadow professionals, contribute to workplace projects, and explore potential career paths. EfTA serves as the liaison between students and internship hosts, helping to create experiences that connect classroom knowledge with real-world application.

In addition to their internships, students participate in professional development opportunities throughout the summer, including interview preparation, skill-building workshops, company site visits, and a networking reception presented by TDECU held on June 25 celebrating the accomplishments of students and internship hosts.

For 36 years, EfTA has connected students with hands-on learning opportunities that prepare them for success beyond the classroom. The organization was founded to promote STEM education, but its Student Internship Program has grown to reflect the diverse interests of students and the evolving needs of the regional workforce. Internships are available across a broad range of industries, including engineering, finance, government, healthcare, law, marketing, and nonprofit.

“Students may have subjects they enjoy, but may not know the range of careers that align with those interests. These internships bridge that gap by connecting students with experienced professionals and on-the-job learning to help them make more informed decisions about their futures,” said Monica Bomkamp Enia, President of Education for Tomorrow Alliance. “The program helps students build confidence, expand their professional networks, and develop skills that will benefit them in college and future careers. We are so grateful for the businesses who invest their time to develop this next generation of leaders.”

Melanie Bush, owner of Better Bookkeepers, Inc. sees hosting internships as a way to develop the next generation. “We at Better Bookkeepers love partnering with EfTA for the Student Internship Program,” said Bush. “Hands-on, practical experience helps our future workforce discern their educational and employment pathways. Partnerships like this enable businesses like ours to invest in students and better our entire community. Plus, we have found some great future team members in the process!”
