Stewart Cink wins 2025 Insperity Invitational on First Playoff Hole
Stewart Cink came out on top of a good ole fashion Texas shootout on Sunday afternoon at The Woodlands Country Club Tournament Course to win his second PGA TOUR Champions victory. With seven players tied at the top of the leaderboard midway through the final nine holes, two – Retief Goosen and Stewart Cink – were left standing, locked at -11 after the 54th hole. The two PGA TOUR major winners headed back to the 18th tee to settle the tie. With both tee shots sitting in the middle of the fairway, Goosen dropped his second shot into the pond surrounding the right side of the 18th hole, while Cink stuck his approach shot to eight feet. He knocked in the birdie putt for the win.
Stewart Cink becomes the ninth player in history of the Insperity Invitational to win in his first appearance at the tournament. It was the fourth time a winner was decided by a playoff. Stewart Cink, shared, “You know, every experience coming down the stretch in professional golf is like case one-of-one. So I wish I could say that I learned so much about being in the hunt and, you know, failures and successes. But I can’t say that, because every time it feels like a new animal. Today was a blast. Me and Chris Jones, my caddie, had a good thing going, as we always do. But I executed pretty well, for the most part. And when I didn’t, I fought really hard. I was really proud of the way I just hung in there all the way through the 55th hole.”

Bernhard Langer shot his age or better for the 29th time in his legendary career. The four-time Insperity Invitational champion matched his age of 67 in the final round. Bernhard Langer said, “It’s aways fun (to shoot your age). A little game I have with myself. In the end I play against myself and the golf course. I have no control over what others do. I enjoy when I shoot or break my age. The first time I did it I shot 64 on my 64th birthday. I played good all week, i just didn’t make all the putts I wanted to make the first couple of days, and then again today. If you want to win you can’t afford doing that.”
Birdies for Charity: Insperity Invitational’s generous partners at Hewlett Packard Enterprise are donating $500 for every birdie or better made by PGA TOUR Champions pros on the par-5, 13th hole throughout tournament play for the Texas Children’s Hospital. A total of 78 birdies were made over the three rounds, raising $39,000 for charity.
