Texas Senate Passes Resolution Honoring Texas Food Bank Network
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX – Montgomery County Food Bank and the entire Texas food bank network were honored by the Senate of the 87th Texas Legislature on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 for providing Texas communities with critical support amid the COVID-19 pandemic and in the wake of historic Winter Storm Uri. The resolution recognized Texas’ 21 food banks, which serve all 254 counties alongside numerous community partners, nonprofit organizations, volunteers and food pantries.
“Texas food banks have risen to the additional challenges posed by Hurricane Laura and Winter Storm Uri to pursue their collective mission of a hunger-free Texas,” stated Senator Judith Zaffirini. “Now, therefore be it that the Senate of the 87th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to Texas food banks and extend to them sincerest gratitude for their resiliency, innovation and dedication to providing Texas communities with critical support during the COVID-19 pandemic; and be it further that a copy of this resolution be prepared in honor of their outstanding service.”
“Our community is so grateful to be recognized by our state’s senators for the hard work and dedication of Montgomery County Food Bank team members, volunteers, donors, and over 80 partner agencies,” said Kristine Marlow, President and CEO of Montgomery County Food Bank. “We do not serve our community for the recognition, however, we are truly humbled and appreciative to be included in the Texas Senate’s resolution honoring the entire Texas food bank network.”
Following the resolution reading by Senator Judith Zaffirini, several senators shared their support and gratitude for the Texas food bank network, including a few of Montgomery County Food Bank’s supporting partners such as Beaumont Foundation of America, H-E-B and Wal- Mart.
