By  |

THE WOODLANDS, TX – The 19th Annual The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival (WWAF) returns to Town Green Park and along The Woodlands Waterway on April 12, 13, and 14, 2024. Produced by local arts nonprofit The Woodlands Arts Council (TWAC), proceeds from the festival directly benefit microgrant and student art scholarship programs.

As a beloved community event for nearly two decades, art lovers, neighbors, and visitors flock to this nationally ranked celebration of fine art, featuring over 200 artists in mediums like painting, woodworking, sculpture, photography, jewelry, and ceramics!

Every year, on Saturday afternoon, TWAC staff and board members navigate their way through the festival to present the Best of Show awards. One of the distinguished accolades includes an invitation to return the following year as the featured artist.

The Arts Council asks the featured artist to generously donate original artwork that serves as the basis for the festival’s posters, T-shirts, children’s activities, and more. Ultimately, the featured art is auctioned off at the Art Dash Party.

Last year, they were excited to invite painter Regina Lyubovnaya, a first-time WWAF festival artist, to be the featured artist for 2024.

Lyubovnaya, based in Los Angeles, says, “I feel lucky every day to be painting, learning, and discovering new things.” Her donated piece, Water Break, depicts a young girl in a red dress pausing with her horse in a shallow waterway. The girl stares strikingly out at the viewer perched on a tree branch.

“We were inspired to feature an artist new to our festival, and Regina’s work resonated with so many people we spoke to. Water Break has encouraged us all to contemplate what can be discovered when we stop and take the time to look around,” says Jenny Carattini-Wright, TWAC Executive Director.
