By  |

The Woodlands Arts Council’s inaugural group of Student Art Ambassadors wrapped up their final gathering of the year with a tour of Sam Houston State University’s Fine Arts Department.

The tour was led by Michael Henderson, Associate Dean, who took the students through painting, drawing, and sculpture workspaces. Transportation to SHSU was generously provided by Debbie Kaschik, TWAC Board Director and owner of The Young Learners Academy.

This group of Student Art Ambassadors came from the CISD Conroe High School feeder zone (grades 7-12) and were nominated by their art teachers. They met quarterly throughout the school year for art talks, hands-on activities, visited The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival, and more. Students shared their art, met professional working artists, and learned about real-world art spaces, including galleries, schools, and events.

“We were so lucky to have a great group of Student Art Ambassadors from the Conroe High School feeder zone with us this year. It was so much fun getting to know them and their incredible art and to introduce them to some of the amazing artists and art spaces we have here in Montgomery County!” said Jayla Davis, Student Art Ambassador Program Chair and TWAC Board Director.

Nominated students participate in the Ambassador program for free thanks to the support of The Woodlands Arts Council donors, sponsors, and Art Lover members.

“The Woodlands Arts Council’s Student Art Ambassadors program was such a wonderful experience to be a part of! As a young artist, it is always incredibly meaningful to be recognized for the passion and effort I put into my work. In addition to the empowering nature of the program, I am profoundly grateful for the connections and opportunities it has brought me,” said Jadyn Sphon, Conroe High School 12th-grade student.

Next year’s Student Art Ambassadors (grades 7-12) will be from the Oak Ridge High School feeder zone (Oak Ridge High School and Irons Jr. High). Students passionate about art can speak with their teachers about being nominated for the program this fall. To learn more about the program, please email: Claire@TheWoodlandsArtsCouncil.Org
