The event exceeded the Food Bank’s goals by raising a total of $74,555 which will help provide thousands of nutritious meals for hungry children, families and seniors throughout Montgomery County.

Outrun Hunger featured timed 5K and 10K trail runs and a 1K Second Line Parade led by New Orleans band – Hustlers Brass Band. Not even the rain and arctic temperatures could stop volunteers, vendors, sponsors, and over 200 participants from supporting the Food Bank and successfully ‘outrunning hunger.’

The fun continued beyond the finish line, where runners and walkers enjoyed delicious Cajun food trucks, carnival and lawn games, Cajun and Zydeco music, dancing, face painting, a balloon artist, and more. Outrun Hunger participants were also given the opportunity to fundraise on behalf of MCFB leading up to the event.

The top team fundraiser aka ‘Top Krewe’ was Deacon Baldy’s, a local bar and food truck establishment. Their team raised almost $3,000 to benefit the Food Bank and the many people it serves. Top event sponsors included Suddenlink, Amazon, Kroger, H-E-B, Insperity, Southwestern Energy, Grand Central Park, and Run for Kristi.

“The success of this year’s event wouldn’t have been possible without our runners, volunteers, vendors, sponsors, and especially Suddenlink for their generous support of this event,” said Kristine Marlow, President and CEO of Montgomery County Food Bank. “It was truly humbling to witness so many community members brave the rain and freezing weather in support of our vision of a community where everyone has access to sufficient, nutritious food.”

“Suddenlink is proud to support for the Montgomery County Food Bank and local community by sponsoring the inaugural Outrun Hunger fun run,” said Curt Allison, Market Engagement Manager for Suddenlink. “At Suddenlink, we’re committed to keeping our customers and communities connected to the resources they need, and we’re always thrilled to support organizations like the Montgomery County Food Bank that have a similar mission.”
