Local Charities to Support on Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is celebrated annually on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. This year it will be observed November 27, 2018. It’s a wonderful way to support local charities during the holiday season of giving. Donating time, energy, and/or new & lightly used items are all helpful to our community on Giving Tuesday.

The Abundant Harvest supports and creates experiences around the table that feed the body, nourishes the soul, and transforms our community.

American Heart Association of Montgomery County is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is: “Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.” Buy a cookbook or a gym bag to support your healthy living choices or show your support for one of our causes through apparel or jewelry choices. This organization also hosts many events throughout the year to support heart health and awareness.

Breast Cancer Charities of America exists to eliminate breast cancer as a life-threatening illness. They bring together organizations representing all health and social service disciplines in the commitment to establish new and unprecedented levels of effectiveness in research, education, advocacy and support

Bridgewood Farms has been an integral part of the community since 1967, providing day programs, after school programs, and respite care for individuals with special needs and their families. Our work helps to ensure that all citizens of Montgomery County—regardless of their intellectual abilities—have a place to lead happy, healthy, productive lives.

Canopy Cancer Survivorship Center enhances the quality of life for individuals affected by cancer and for those who support them during their journeys. Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center is home to Canopy – a first-of-its-kind cancer survivorship center in the greater Houston area.

C.A.S.A. Child Advocates of Montgomery County provides and promotes court-appointed volunteer advocacy so that every abused and neglected child can have the opportunity to thrive in a safe, nurturing permanent home.

Cassidy Joined For Hope focuses on teen suicide awareness and prevention, spreading suicide awareness support throughout the entire community through speaking events, educating our community about the real pressures and dangers our teens are facing today, and focusing on preventative measures.

Children’s Safe Harbor protects and enhances the life of every child who has the courage to battle sexual and physical abuse.

Crisis Assistance Center is a source of hope for Montgomery County residents experiencing financial crisis in basic needs of housing, utilities, food and clothing. Strengthened through collaboration with community and faith partners, CAC honors and restores the dignity of individuals and families to attain greater levels of responsibility and financial independence, by delivering assistance and life lasting strategic solutions.

Emergency Chaplain Group is a specialized chaplaincy program resolved to provide healing and support to our everyday heroes. Its mission is to come alongside first responders who experience extraordinary human events daily and to offer them emotional and spiritual support services.

FAITH Fighting Cancer in Montgomery County provides emotional and/or financial support for cancer patients and families as well as assist in educational and preventative care programs in Montgomery County and surrounding areas.

Glade Arts Foundation provides a unique and accessible fine arts experience with programs focused on art education, scholarships, community based public art projects and curated museum-like exhibit center showcasing local and international artists and acclaimed private and public art collections.

Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County is a volunteer-based organization that provides safe and sustainable homes for low-income individuals and families. Each Habitat home serves as an example of the generosity of this community and its commitment to improving Montgomery County for generations to come.

HandUp Global Goods seeks to establish a global connection where all goods exchanged are developed with dignity. They uphold this connectedness by linking arms with pre-artisans in communities marked by poverty and seeking spiritual and social change together.

HGI Counseling Center works collaboratively with clients to define what successful change looks like to them. The collaborative, systems-based approach is different than the traditional, hierarchical, medical model that is formulaic, prescription-based and follows a pre-defined path toward a “cure.” HGI empowers clients to create, adopt and pave their own way forward by helping clients find the tools, develop the skills and build a stronger social system to deal with the future.

Houston Animal Rescue Team, based in Tomball, makes a difference in outcomes for stray dogs and those surrendered to local shelters. The non profit will have foster-based rescues, and will also augment its capability to save dogs with a kennel-based system to be built on a beautiful property in Tomball.

Interfaith of The Woodlands offers programs including Adopt-a-Family, Holiday Toy Drive, and Gifts for Seniors. The Adopt-a-Family program provides requested gifts to families who have been adopted by local community members. The Holiday Toy Drive offers businesses and individuals an opportunity to collect toys and gifts for children of all ages. Families requesting assistance are able to choose items for their children from the incredible assortment of donated toys, which are set up at The Woodlands Fire Department’s central location on Grogan’s Mill Dr. New toy donations are being accepted at the Interfaith office, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., beginning Monday, November 26.

Jack and Jill of America, Inc is an African-American organization of mothers who nurture future leaders by strengthening children ages 2-19 through chapter programming, community service, legislative advocacy and philanthropic giving.

Junior League of The Woodlands is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

Lone Star College Foundation has a mission is to change lives through student scholarships and quality educational programs achieved by excellence in relationship building, fundraising, and investment management.

Love Fosters Hope brings hope, healing and a bright future to kids in foster care who have likely been abused, abandoned and neglected.

Meals on Wheels of Montgomery County is a volunteer driven network of home delivered meal services providing the elderly of our community with a nutritious meal, a safety check, a friendly face, and transportation.

Memorial Hermann In The Pink of Health changes lives by raising funds to reduce the incidence of breast and ovarian cancer and assist survivors in their journey.

Mercy House Global exists to engage and empower women around the globe, and engage those with resources to say yes to the plight of women in poverty. Mercy House empowers women and teenage mothers around the world through partnerships and sustainable fair trade product development.

Montgomery County Animal Shelter strives to promote humane treatment of animals, prevent cruelty to animals, and provide a facility to return animals to their rightful owners. It is a shelter established to protect, feed, and house the stray, injured, abused or unwanted animals in Montgomery County, Texas. It is primarily funded by Montgomery County government and private donations through non-profit partners. When owners can’t be found, or animals are discarded by irresponsible owners, the shelter and many passionate, devoted volunteers hope to find them the permanent, “fur”ever homes they deserve.

Montgomery County Community Foundation was established to create and build a permanent fund to provide for the present and future well-being of our community. The Foundation works to encourage philanthropy by offering local donors simplicity and flexibility in carrying out their charitable wishes while creating an enduring legacy. The non profit strives to be the hub where local donors, nonprofits and community needs meet.

Montgomery County Food Bank is a clearinghouse for food items donated and purchased for distribution to charities assisting the poor and victims in crisis. The non profit uses food, money and volunteers to feed the hungry in Montgomery County 365 days of the year. The food bank is also a first-responder for any disaster in Montgomery County, providing food to those impacted.

Montgomery County Homeless Coalition is dedicated to promoting the belief that affordable housing, sufficient food, and the opportunity to work for a living wage are fundamental rights of a civilized society. The Coalition strives to make the world a better place for homeless and impoverished families and finding new ways to help those in need overcome life’s challenges.

Operation Pets Alive strives to increase community awareness and community involvement regarding the no-kill movement and the plight of homeless dogs and cats in the community. The organization is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to working with people and government to provide life-saving, no-kill programs to the community through innovative programs.

Panther Creek Inspiration Ranch is dedicated and passionate about creating opportunities for all members of our social needs community so they can discover new strengths, abilities, skills and successes in the arena of life. The non profit organization offers hope and new possibilities to participants and their families through highly efficient programs and effective management.

Montgomery County Women’s Center has been committed for many years to providing a 24-hour hotline, safe shelter, crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy and legal services to survivors of family violence, sexual assault and stalking. Its mission is to lead the effort in preventing domestic violence and sexual assault through crisis intervention, assistance, advocacy, empowerment, and social change.

Montgomery County Youth Services provides crisis counseling, shelter programs and prevention services to strengthen families, keep youth in school and prepare them to be productive citizens.

New Danville is a self-sustaining, master-planned, integrated community where adults with disabilities and the elderly can live, learn, work, and grow emotionally, socially, and spiritually with their non-disabled peers.

Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary is dedicated to rescuing and providing a loving, exceptional home to non-releasable wolves and wolfdogs, and to educating the public about these animals.

Salvation Army of Montgomery County is the only emergency shelter in Montgomery County for men and single women, providing social services for all.

Texas Animal Society promotes the health and care of pets in our community through involvement, education and prevention (spay/neuter), to give a voice to the animals in need and to provide a means for others to help in the plight of dogs and cats in need of assistance, care and homes. Through the means of rescue, volunteering and fostering they can help accomplish the ultimate goal of providing quality care and humane livelihood for dogs and cats in Texas. They strive to work with individuals, county facilities, other rescues and local communities.

The Refugee Project works with women from all over the globe, bringing them together allowing them to meet with other refugees who have similar circumstances. This community of artisans is made up of mothers, sisters and friends all with the desire to provide for their families and thrive in America.

The Woodlands Arts Council has a mission to provide regional cultural enrichment opportunities that encourage, support and promote the performing and visual arts. Its strategic priorities are to present The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival and other community art events; offer scholarships to aspiring young artists; support performing and visual arts programs in the schools; and develop partnerships with others to create a strong arts presence in the area.

The Woodlands Charities, Inc. holds fundraisers for and brings awareness to charities based in The Woodlands area. The organization brings awareness to selected Montgomery County charities, with funds raised donated directly to the charity.

Will Herndon Research Fund is dedicated to saving Will Herndon, son of Missy & Wayne. As a Beyond Batten Disease Foundation, it was established to eradicate juvenile Batten disease by raising awareness and funds to accelerate research for a treatment or cure. Since 2009, they have raised nearly $5 million for Batten research.
