United Way of Greater Houston Grants $116,000 to Montgomery County Food Bank for Residents Affected by Winter Storm
HOUSTON, TX – In an effort to support Montgomery County residents who are still struggling with access to food following the economic stress of the pandemic and February’s winter storm, United Way of Greater Houston is investing $116,283 in the Montgomery County Food Bank. This grant comes from the United Way of Greater Houston Winter Storm Relief Fund, which was developed to support area residents affected by the winter storm earlier this year.
“The Montgomery County Food Bank has been a longtime partner of United Way and continually goes above and beyond to serve their community who have fallen upon hard times due to the pandemic or winter storm,” said Amanda McMillian, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Houston. “No family should go without food, and it is our hope that this investment allows the Food Bank to continue their positive work in the region.”
The Montgomery County Food Bank is the largest provider of food in the county and distributes food to over 70 partner agencies across the county who are ready to serve those in need. Placing a heavy emphasis on reducing both food waste and food insecurity, the organization redirects surplus food from grocery retail partners, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and community-level initiatives to local pantries that serve those in need.
