Shenandoah restaurants participate in Houston Restaurant Weeks’ fundraising event

By  |

Four Shenandoah restaurants will participate in this year’s Houston Restaurant Weeks (HRW) event that runs from August 1 through September 2. It is the largest event of its kind in the United States. And with August traditionally being a slow month for the restaurant and hospitality industries, a woman in 2003 by the name of Cleverly Stone (a 26-year restaurant correspondent and philanthropist, known affectionately as the “Diva of Dining,” and former host of “The Cleverley Food Talk Radio Show”), not only decided to help give restaurants a huge boost by starting Houston Restaurant Weeks, but HRW is also the largest fundraising event for the Houston Food Bank (the largest food bank in the country). HRW has raised $18.8 million to date, a number that equates to over 56 million meals to help feed the hungry in the Houston area.

About this year’s Houston Restaurant Weeks event:

Participating HRW restaurants from around the Houston area offer specially priced lunches, brunches, and dinners for patrons between August 1 and September 2. Each restaurant donates money to the Houston Food Bank based on how many of these specialty meals they serve during that period. Every dollar restaurant donates provides 3 meals at the Houston Food Bank. The money raised also goes to Food Bank Partner Distribution Organizations that include our local Montgomery County Food Bank.

How you can participate:

  • Reservations are not required but recommended, please check the restaurant’s menu page to see if they require reservations or will accept walk-ins. Some restaurants will also have an Open Table link on their menu.
  • If using OpenTable to make your reservation, please write ‘Request Houston Restaurant Weeks Menu’ in the comments field.
  • When making your reservations or ordering to-go, be sure to tell them that you would like the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu. This will let the restaurant know to donate to the Food Bank from the proceeds of your meal. You will not be solicited for a donation; the restaurant makes the donation.
  • Please arrive on time for your reservation, pay your check at the end of the meal, just like any other dining experience. The restaurant will donate to the Houston Restaurant Weeks Food Bank based upon the price of your meal.

About Cleverly Stone:

26-year restaurant correspondent and philanthropist Cleverley Stone, known affectionately as the “Diva of Dining,” and former host of “The Cleverley Food Talk Radio Show,” which aired live on Saturdays as a freewheeling talk show about food, wine, dining, and issues influencing the food scene at national and local levels. A Who’s Who of celebrity chefs, restaurant industry illuminati, stars of The Food Network and journalists made guest appearances alongside up-and-coming local chefs and restaurateurs. This led to her being a popular contributor to FOX26/KRIV Morning News in Houston for many years.
