The Search for the Loch Ness Monster! (For Kids!)

The biggest search for the Loch Ness monster was launched this year! Nessie continues to elude detection (good for her!) save for a grainy photo here and there. This Halloween season local children’s book author and mystical creature expert Alicia Salazar will join Village Books to discuss Nessie and trolls, reading from her children’s books! Operation Pets Alive, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue, is excited to invite the community to a spine-tingling celebration of furry friends and family fun at their annual Howl-O-Ween Festival from 10am to 4pm at Northshore Park. All day long you can meet the ghouls and furry monsters (adoptable homeless pets) to scare you out of your senses with mega sweetness and kisses! Witness the enchanting spectacle of our four-legged friends strutting their stuff in imaginative costumes. Prizes await the most spellbinding ensembles at the pet parade and costume contest! All proceeds from the Howl-O-Ween Festival will directly benefit the vital efforts of Operation Pets Alive in their mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and find loving homes for animals in need. National Drug Take Back Day

Clean out your medicine cabinets and turn in – safely and anonymously – unused, unneeded, and out-of-date prescription and over-the-counter medications for safe disposal. This National Drug Take Back Initiative (NTBI) event is a joint project of the Shenandoah Police Department and the DEA. The DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day reflects DEA’s commitment to Americans’ safety and health, encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting. There will be a DJ, bounce houses, a bubble master, face painters & balloon twisters, a petting zoo, a rock wall, carnival games, a photo booth, a visit from The Woodlands Fire Department, as well as The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, including a special visit from a K-9 Unit!
